China Red most often uses a blend of cultivars, and is rolled into a pine needle shape. This is an exceptionally well-made example of China Red. Mouthfeel and aftertaste are standout features here. The tea liquor is rich, full of tea down and seemingly high in saponins. We were able to find a producer who uses much older trees than would normally be used for this tea. This results in improved aftertaste and brewing endurance.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eYou can brew this tea any way you like, trying different water temperatures. When brewing this tea gongfu style we like to have a long session with a 5-6g\/100ml ratio and short infusions. Unlike our 2025 version, this 2026 edition of China Red is unblended, using only native Yunnan \u003cem\u003egushu\u003c\/em\u003e material. The choice to use higher quality material sets this version of China Red apart from others on the market. The mouthfeel and aftertaste are the standout features of this red tea, particularly the \u003cem\u003ehui gan\u003c\/em\u003e and cooling sensation. Favourable weather has also given this 2026 vintage a more intense aroma compared to last year’s. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eYou can brew this tea any way you like, trying different water temperatures. When brewing this tea gongfu style we like to have a long session with a 5-6g\/100ml ratio and short infusions (10 seconds or less). This tea extracts easily, yielding a rich brew with a smooth water path. The mouthfeel is even better when the liquor cools down. While we usually prefer the more complexly processed China Red, this tea is enjoyable in its own right. Quite a relaxing tea overall. These two teas are oven-dried and use gushu (ancient tree) material from Baoshan in northern Yunnan. The Gushu Dianhong is an orthodox Dianhong using the native Da Ye Zhong varietal. The China Red is more tightly rolled into a pine needle (\u003cem\u003esongzhen\u003c\/em\u003e) shape. China Red is usually a blended tea, mixing native Yunnan varietals with imported small-leaf varietals like Mei Zhan. This one, however, is unblended, using only native gushu Da Ye Zhong. Both of these teas use much better material than would normally be used for red tea. This producer does not make Dianhong merely as a secondary product; they really care about red tea, which is evident in their choice of material as well as their excellent processing.
