Dianhong Expressions

This sample set contains two stylistic expressions of Dianhong (Yunnan red) from the same garden and producer. These two teas are oven-dried and use gushu (ancient tree) material from Baoshan in northern Yunnan. The Gushu Dianhong is an orthodox Dianhong using the native Da Ye Zhong varietal. The China Red is more tightly rolled into a pine needle (songzhen) shape. China Red is usually a blended tea, mixing native Yunnan varietals with imported small-leaf varietals like Mei Zhan. This one, however, is unblended, using only native gushu Da Ye Zhong. Both of these teas use much better material than would normally be used for red tea. This producer does not make Dianhong merely as a secondary product; they really care about red tea, which is evident in their choice of material as well as their excellent processing. We recommend brewing these teas in a 100ml porcelain gaiwan with boiling water.
